RAK Airways has cancelled its flights during Eid al Adha to Cairo without mentioning the reasons leaving several passengers disgruntled.

RAK Airways flights to Cairo on November 4, 5 and 6 - the day before Wakfat Arafat and the first day of Eid al Adha - have been cancelled.

Officials have given passengers an option to travel on October 31 instead or on November 7 or to avail of the refund.

While some passengers are negotiating with the airlines, others are planning to sue the company, and yet a few have decided to file a cmplaint with the Ministry of Economy.

Meanwhile, some affected passengers said the agents told them the cancellation was due to increased traffic during that time.

'Emirates24|7' was not successful in contacting the airline as its landline (072075000) was always engaged and the call was transferred to the answering machine.

MA, an affected passenger, working with the Arab Shipping Authority, cancelled her tickets.

Ahmed Naji said RAK airlines had promised to book him on another airline on the same date. He added that he had booked the tickets last Ramdan for Dh1,000, while now the charge would be about Dh5,000.

The company has four flights a week to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia and Calicut, India, and three flights weekly to Cairo, and three similar flights to Dhaka and Chittagong in Bangladesh.

At least 17 per cent of the company's bookings comes through website, and 70 per cent of the demand come from the Northern Emirates.
