The world’s largest social media platform Facebook has emerged as the most popular share among GCC investors’ global portfolio, with iPhone-maker Apple ranked at No. 5 and Google’s parent Alphabet at No. 5.

Saxo Bank has announced the list of the five most popular single stock CFDs on its online trading platform for Q1 2016, and the list shows that Facebook is not only active on most peoples’ smartphones, it also tops their investment portfolios.

In order of ranking, the Top 5 most traded stocks in GCC are:

#1 Facebook Inc.
#2 Bank of America
#3 Apple
#4 Halliburton Co
#5 Alphabet Inc.

“I am not surprised to see that Facebook and Apple are in the top most popular stocks among Saxo Bank’s clients in the first quarter of the year in the GCC. The companies demonstrated solid performances last year, and investors have continued to buy,” said Fadi Mehdi, Head of Saxo Bank A/S - Abu Dhabi Representative Office.

Even as valuations of some of these stocks have rocketed over the years, the time may be ripe for those interested in a piece of the big international stocks.

“We have seen some correction in the market. Tech companies are at the battlefront of the new economy and there are strong opinions on the current pricing,” said Fadi.

“This has been a volatile quarter for equities. The European Stoxx-600 index had the worst quarter since 2009,” he added.

Saxo Bank’s most traded stocks in all markets include: Facebook Inc., Apple Inc., Amazon, Vestas Wind Systems and Alphabet Inc.

Its most shorted stocks in all markets include Apple Inc., Barclays Plc, Anglo American Plc, Netflix Inc. and Glencore Plc.
