Newborn attached to mom's umbilical cord dragged 10m, dies

A newborn baby died at a hospital in Henan province of China, after being dragged for more than 10 metres while still attached to the mother’s umbilical cord.

Last month, the mother was being rushed to the operating room for a cesarean section in a wheelchair while she gave birth, reported AsiaOne.

The staff did not notice she had delivered and continued pushing her down the hall with the baby dragging on the floor.

Her husband has demanded a compensation of 200,000 yuan (Dh117,522) but the hospital apologised and  agreed to pay 5,000 yuan.

Investigation is on.
