100 lashes for girl who slept with older man

A 16-year-old girl has been sentenced to 100 lashes and eight-months’ house arrest after being convicted of having sex with an older man in the Maldives.

According to reports, the girl’s family pressed charges against the 29-year-old man after she ‘confessed’ to having sex with him.

The unnamed man was found guilty of having sex with a minor and sentenced to 10 years in jail, said the Private Minivan News.

The couple were found engaged in intercourse in the Raa atoll, about 200 kilometres north of the capital island of Male.
