Starvation and undernourishment have reached a dangerous level in the Tharperkar desert of Sindh province in southern Pakistan, where hospital records in the province showed the deaths of 120 children, including new born and infants, during the past thirty five days, while 170 children are being treated as a result of contaminated drinking water.

According to Mitha Hospital administration, the deaths resulted from a lack of nutrition.

According to the WHO, 15 percent of women and children suffer malnutrition. Details indicate that most of the residents of the villages of the provinces of Tharerkar and Omarkot face starvation and difficulty of access to food, clean water and the lack of health services and medicines.

Health authorities in the province have sent four medical teams to remote desert areas to deal with cases arising from malnutrition and anemia.
