2 in 3 Dubai residents in lose weight, win gold move are Indians
Dubai Municipality’s weight-loss campaign ‘Your Child in Gold’ has seen over 6,000 online registrations, and an equally impressive start at its onsite registration.
The statistics released by the civic body reveal that 9,219 residents signed up for the campaign on the first day of its launch.
Of these, 5,938 were of Indian nationality, while 1,005 were from Philippines. UAE recorded 282 participants.
The 10-day onsite registration kicked off on Monday at Al Mamzar jogging track, Al Khawaneej jogging track Gate No. 3, Safa Park Gate No. 2, Zabeel Park Gate No. 3 and Al Barsha Park main entrance between 9pm and midnight.
Of the total number registered, 1,391 were families and 7,828 were individual participants.
The campaign, which was titled ‘Lose weight, win gold’ in its first year, is now focused to educate families about the ill-effects of obesity.
Families stand to gain more this time round. “If you register with your children, then each family member will get two grams of gold for every kilo lost. But children have to lose the weight, for the rest of the family to win more gold,” said Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director-General of Dubai Municipality during the launch.
Individual participants stand to gain 1-gram of gold for every kilo lost after a minimum loss of 2-kgs.
Walid Al Shaibani, head of DM club and coordinator of the campaign, confirmed that the onsite registrations will continue over the weekends.
The campaign runs from July 15 to September 1 this year.
