Dubai has an active population of more than 3 million during the day, statistics from Dubai Statistics Centre (DSC) show. According to data from the official statistics centre, in addition to 1.9m Dubai residents, more than 1m workers from outside the emirate enter Dubai everyday for their jobs, and the population of Dubai on a working day is more than 3m.

According to DSC, the current population of Dubai is 1.938m, and according to its 2010 year-end survey, an additional 1.07m workers enter the emirate everyday, taking the ‘active population’ to over 3m a day.

The active population swells by 56 per cent when the number of tourists, sailors and workers in government as well as private sector residing outside Dubai is taken into consideration.

Data also showed that an additional 31,636 people were added to Dubai’s population in the first three months of 2011, with the population reaching 1,937,112 on March 31, 2011, from 1,905,476 at the end of 2010.

DSC data also shows that almost 70 per cent of Dubai’s resident population is in the working age group, between the 20 and 49 years of age. According to the centre, more than 1.33m people in Dubai were aged between 20 and 49 in 2010, which is almost 70 per cent of the total population of 1.9m recorded last year.

While the 0-19 age-group had about 282,500 individuals, there were only 21,580 people aged 60 or above, data shows.
