47 'terrorists' executed in Saudi Arabia

Saudi authorities on Saturday executed 47 men convicted of carrying out terror attacks in the Gulf Kingdom, including the controversial Shia cleric Nimr Baqir Al Nimr.

The official Saudi Press Agency (SPA), quoting an interior ministry statement, said the 47 include 45 Saudis, one Egyptian and one Chadian.

It said those executed had been convicted by courts of belonging to terror groups, seeking to overthrow the regime, and carrying out attacks inside the Kingdom.

They include the 53-year-old Moslem shia cleric Al Nimr, who was sentenced to death last year on charges of seeking foreign meddling in the kingdom, disobeying its rulers and taking up arms against the security forces.
