Police in Paraguay say they have arrested the fugitive stepfather of a pregnant 10-year-old girl who has been denied an abortion by the government.
The official rejection of the abortion request from the girl's mother has angered international human rights groups, who say the pregnancy endangers the health of the young girl. Abortion is illegal in the South American nation.
A Saturday statement from police says the girl's stepfather was arrested at dawn in the city of Caazapa, about 125 miles (200 kilometers) southeast of the capital, Asuncion. The man's name hasn't been released but he had fled two weeks ago.
Authorities allege the girl was raped by her stepfather. Local medial quote him as denying guilt.
