Building foreman steal ATM and empty account

A building foreman in Dubai allegedly stole from a flat an ATM card and emptied the account of its holder in his absence from the country, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The victim MRS, 54, Canadian partner testified that he left the country on vacation with his wife on September 24, and returned on October 4, 2011.

“Upon my return I received a call from Belhasa Office that there is no balance in my account with HSBC. I was shocked as I had more than Dh39,000. Checking with the bank I was told that the amount was withdrawn over the period from September 25 to October 2. I left the ATM card in my house before travelling,” he testified.

The CCTV cameras at the ATM machine showed SYN, 22, the building’s foreman using the card.

The accused confessed to the crime. The court adjourned the case for verdict until March 7.
