Child found on baggage carousel at Dubai airport

A six-year-old boy waited for his busy parents to turn their back at Dubai’s airport and climbed the moving baggage carousel which took him right to the area where bags are loaded into the aircraft. But surprised workers stopped the belt and saved him.

The parents were busy having their luggage processed at the crowded terminal when they could no longer find their son, Al Bayan newspaper said.

It turned out later that the curious boy walked through an unmanned check-in counter, stepped onto the carousel inside the counter and pressed the button.

Workers loading baggage into the aircraft were caught off guard as they saw a boy sat on the belt among hundreds of bag coming their way.
“One worker pressed the button and stopped the moving belt.

“He then caught the boy and handed him to the airport security men,” the paper said, quoting Major Ahmed bin Thani, director of the airport security department.

“We considered the boy as a missing person and linked him to a report just been received from a man and his wife that they have lost their six-year-old boy.

“We brought the boy to them and they said he is their son,” Thani added.

He said the incident had prompted Dubai’s airport authorities to put barriers around unnamed check-in counters to prevent further accidents.
