Confiscated Sharjah vehicles to be returned

About 62 vehicles that were confiscated for causing public nuisance by using illegal and loud modifications will be returned to their owners under instructions given by His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council member and Ruler of Sharjah, to Sharjah Police.

Major General Mohammed Al Hudaidi, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, who conveyed Sheikh Sultan's instructions through his call to Direct Line programme broadcast by Sharjah TV and Radio, said the vehicles would only be given back to owners after all illegal modifications were dismantled.

In March, Shaikh Sultan instructed Sharjah Police to permanently confiscate vehicles and motorbikes with modified exhaust systems that disturb the peace across the emirate's neighbourhoods. According to that new rule, automobile workshops and other facilities will be closed down if they are found to be responsible for modifying exhaust systems or providing any other facility that allows any vehicle's engine to be louder than usual.
