A 20-year-old French tourist has been arrested for allegedly impersonating and defrauding guests in five-star hotels by signing bills in their names.

The Department of Tourism Security of the General Department of Criminal Investigation at Dubai Police, received several complaints from various hotels of fraud and cheating which led to an investigation, Al Ittihad reported.

Initial probe revealed a common pattern of cheating and impersonation pointing to a single person.

Lieutenant Musa Mubarak, head of the field services at the Tourism Security said the young French accused used a novel method of fraud and impersonation.

The accused would meticulously follow particular guests, find out their room numbers, their names and then use the hotel facilities and sign the bills in others’ names.

Following investigations and close monitoring of suspect individual for days, the undercover police managed to arrest the Frenchman red handed from a hotel.

The accused cheated people for up to Dh25,000.
