Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council passed a resolution authorising Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) to levy fuel surcharge upon the consumers with their monthly utility bills.

Dewa would monitor the fluctuating fuel prices continuously, and the increase or decrease in the prices would reflect on the monthly bills.

The average fuel price for the year 2010 would be the basis for calculating the difference in fuel prices.

The surcharge would be fixed and distributed to the consumers on a monthly basis.

However, the monthly bills for housing and farms of UAE citizens are excluded from the surcharge.
