Passengers throwing cigarette butts from cars will be fined SR100 (Dh100) in Saudi Arabia under a new traffic law that also includes penalties against wrong pedestrian crossing, a newspaper in the Gulf Kingdom reported on Monday.

Traffic policeman catching offenders have been authorised by the Interior Ministry to issue fines on the spot, ‘Okaz’ Arabic language daily said, quoting traffic police chief Major General Abdullah Al Zahrani.

He said pedestrians using the wrong way to cross roads will also be fined SR100 while other offences in the new law include hanging obscene stickers on walls, using illegal systems in public and parking cars in the wrong place near public facilities.
