Colombo: The in-house doctors of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital were allegedly watching ‘live’ cricket match on TV on Saturday, when they were on duty.
And according to media reports, when a patient’s guardian questioned them, the doctors inturn filed a complaint against the person and had him arrested.
The incident came to light when a journalist took his ailing mother to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.
He alleged that the doctors on duty were watching a cricket match and ignored the patient.
And when the journalist enquired with the doctors as to when they would check his mom, they allegedly called cops complaining that the scribe was disturbing them from carrying out their duties. And the police took the journalist into custody.
Councillor Hettiarachchi said the administration at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital has, over a period of time, failed in effectively discharging its duties.
The councilor also alleged that the hospital does not maintain proper hygiene.
