Blood donors should not be paid for the quantity of their donated blood but can accept a token sum as a gift after donation, according to a new Islamic ruling.
The Abu Dhabi Fatwa (Islamic edict) centre, responding to a query from the public, said Islam banned trading or drinking blood along with eating pork and corpses, Alkhaleej newspaper reported on Thursday.
“Sums of money offered by medical institutions to blood donors as a token gift after donation are acceptable,” it said. “But charging fixed sums of money for the quantity of donated blood is prohibited.”
