Du invests Dh400m on network upgrade

Du, the UAE's integrated telecom service provider, has selected Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) to comprehensively upgrade its mobile network operations in the UAE, investing Dh400 million, a statement said.

The project is expected to enhance du network performance and operations. Nokia Siemens Networks will expand du's 2G network and introduce its 3G HSPA+ network with speeds of up to 42Mb as part of du's existing 3G HSPA+ network.

Under the scope of the deal, Nokia Siemens Networks will provide a comprehensive portfolio of telecommunication equipment and services across radio, core, transmission, value added services and operational support systems. This upgrade comes on the back of the completion of financing facilities for NSN equipment announced earlier this month.

Nokia Siemens Networks' Flexi Base Station hardware and software will double du's voice capacity and improve its GSM/EDGE data rates. Moreover, it will enable du to offer HSPA+ data rates of up to 42Mbps in selected locations.

Nokia Siemens Networks will also deploy an all-IP FlexiPacket Microwave Backhaul solution in order to reduce du's operating costs and additionally integrate the operator's VAS platform, the statement added.
