Dubai Filipinos bursting with joy and pride over Megan Young's Miss World crown

Early crowd and critics favourite Miss Philippines, Megan Young was declared is the Miss World 2013 in the finals of the pageant held in Bali, Indonesia today, Saturday September 28.

"No words! Thank you so much for everyone for choosing me. I promise to be the best Miss World ever," Megan Young said, after she was chosen ahead of Miss France, Marine Lorphelin who finished as the first runner-up and Miss Ghana Carranzar Naa Okailey Shooter, the second runner up.

Dubai’s huge Filipino population who were following the pageant closely, we filled with pride and thrilled with the crown for one of their ‘kabayan’.

Speaking to Emirates 24|7 Acel Labrador, Media Coordinator based in Dubai said, “It is a first win for the Philippines in the Miss World. I am happy that Philippines is now in the international limelight. We could use a little good news from all the problems that our country is facing.”

"I'm so proud she won," beamed Melany Demetillo-Reyes, who works as a designer in Dubai. "Despite the controversy over her pictures, she has done it. We have waited for so long to see our name up there. And it has finally happened."

Alaine, who works as an HR officer in Dubai, is equally ecstatic about the win.

"I think she's the best candidate to represent Philippines. She's very simple and down to earth. And, she showcased her talent well. She has made us all proud.”

“We are proud of her achievement. She is intelligent and beautiful and all the Filipinos in the UAE are proud of her,” says Michael Rubinicia.

“It is a stunning victory for all ‘Kabayans’ here and all over the world,” he added. 

Carmel, another Filippino who said she was disappointed she could not watch it on TV ‘live’, but she is still very proud that a Filipino has the much-coveted Miss World Crown.
