A complaint has been registered against two couples – one of African nationality for burning their six-year-old daughter; and one against Arab parents for regularly beating up their 10-year-old son.

The Directorate General of Human Rights, Dubai Police and the Women and Children’s Protection Department have filed the cases.

Director of Human Rights, Dubai Police, Dr. Brigadier Mohamed Al Merr, was quoted by Emarat Al Youm as saying, “The administration moved immediately upon communication from the two schools teaching those two children.”

He said that the administration is coordinating with schools to inform of any effects of abuse on students. He pointed out that some parents are resorting to the use of violence against children in order to discipline them.

“There are a variety of methods in sound education to work with the child that do not include beating or burning, or any physical abuse, because these methods usually result in psychological problems,” he said.

Director of Women and Children’s Protection Department, Major Shaheen Mazmi, said, “We acted on call from one of the schools stating that there are traces of burns on a little girl in the first grade.”

He said he saw the burns on different parts the girl’s arm and the back of her hand and when he asked why, she said her parents burned her.

Major Mazmi told Emarat Al Youm that the mother said in her testimony that the child (the victim) burned her younger sister, so the mother took the initiative to heat a metal spoon and burned her .

The investigation into the Arab case revealed that the boy was beaten because of his stubbornness.
