Dubai's Integrated Energy Strategy close to finalisation

Supreme Council also reviewed plans for promoting use of electric, hybrid and environment-friendly cars in Dubai. (WAM)

Dubai's Supreme Council of Energy held its seventh meeting at Dewa headquarters on Monday presided by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman. It was attended by Saeed Al Tayer, Vice-Chairman and council members.

Al Tayer said that the meeting elaborated on the location of Hassyan upcoming power stations and water desalination plant, one of the latest development projects of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, as part of Dewa's efforts to upgrade capabilities to meet the growing demand for electricity in Dubai. These substations constitute the backbone of the electricity transmission networks of Dewa.

"The council is completing its discussions on the final the drafts of Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy with an international consultant. The proceedings focused on securing energy resources, diversification of energy resources such as civil nuclear technology, clean coal, and the exploration and production of oil and gas and petroleum products. The council tackled the best use and sustainability of natural resources."

The meeting also hosted a delegation from the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), who presented plans in the field of energy efficiency in the public transport sector.

The council addressed the various activities and plans of the Emirates Energy Award, which is now under the umbrella of Dubai's Supreme Energy Council.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, issued Law No.19 of 2009 establishing the Supreme Energy Council as an independent legal entity.

The council aims to diversify energy sources in the emirate, including alternative and nuclear energy, and create ongoing sources of sustainable energy to meet the requirements of future development. The council was established in response to the global changes and the expansion in the search for unconventional sources of energy.
