Dubai Municipality is all set to control rodents in the city following increasing complaints from residents, reports local media.

According to a 'Gulf Today' report DM has urged owners of abandoned buildings in the emirate to extend their cooperation by leaving doors of the premises open.

“Otherwise, owners of these buildings should have to bear the responsibility and municipal actions for facilitating the spread of rodents and pests in the city,” warned a top official.

All establishments in the emirate are also urged to maintain pest control contracts with relevant companies on a regular basis. Operation of these companies will be evaluated by of DM’s public health department periodically.

A 'Gulf News' report said DM's Pest Control Section deployed additional field personnel to implement an integrated rodent control plan which involves immediate precautionary measures in urban areas. Authorities will take a strong note of violations related to storage and cleanliness, too.

About 30 sites of such buildings in Muhaisna, Karama, Satwa, Ras Al Khor and Al Quoz will be inspected this month by the DM’s rodent control operation team, said Hisham Abdul Rahman Al Yahya, head of public health in the Pest Control Section of the DM’s Public Health Services Department.

They carried out control operations in 3,492 sites in May and 5,198 sites in June, he said.
