Following inspections by the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA), 32 meat shops in the emirate were issued warnings, and 4 given notices.

The inspectors seized and destroyed 938.5 kg of products for not meeting approved standards.

The special inspection campaign on meat shops was carried out during the first week of Ramadan to check if the facilities were meeting with the ADFCA’s health and safety standards.

The inspections also focused on the safety of tools and equipment used in the facilities as well as the cold storage systems and vehicles used to transport meat products.

ADFCA inspectors visited a total of 119 facilities which include meat, poultry and fish outlets as well as some cold storages and vehicles.

It is found that 83 shops were marked for meeting the criteria and standards set forth by ADFCA.

Mohammed Jalal Al Rayssi, Director of Communication & Community service Division at ADFCA said the inspections were carried as part of ADFCA’s special program during the fasting month.

He said the sale of meat products goes up during the season and hence the authority had to beef up its control activities including inspection and awareness dissemination in order to ensure consumers’ health and safety.
