National Day revellers who violated traffic rules were in for a schok as Dubai Police issued tickets and even impounded some vehicles.

Police seized 99 cars and two motorcycles and issued 1,345 tickets  during the two-day holiday for the Naional Day, said Major General Mohammed Saif Al Zaffin, Director, Dubai Police Traffic.

Though there were no deaths or major mishaps, there were 14 accidents reported in which at least six people suffered moderate to high injuries, he added.

“Bur Dubai was the hotspot for road chaos during the 40th anniversary celebrations from where 75 vehicles were seized, while 24 cars were impounded from Deira.

People who drove without valid licences were taken to police stations and action will be initiated against them, Maj Gen Zaffin said.

Some revellers were caught leaning out of windows, blasting horns, playing loud music and driving recklessly. Some drivers were held for spraying cans of foam on other drivers and pedestrians. This is not acceptable behaviour, he added.

He said, however, the number of accidents during the National Day holidays were fewer compared to that of last year when 24 mishaps were recorded.
