A 24-year-old Afghani, ZDA, who was arrested on his arrival at the Dubai International Airport on February 15 for smuggling 74 capsules comprising drugs in his digestive organ, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison followed by deportation.

The Dubai Criminal Court also ordered the accused to pay Dh50,000 fine.

Initially upon his arrest, he had denied carrying any drug despite an electronic inspection device showing foreign bodies inside his system.

Later at the Anti-Drugs General Department he was made to relase 74 capsules comprising 623.07 grams of heroin and diazepam.

ZDA's urine test also revealed that he had consumed hashish. However, as the substance was taken outside the country, according to article No. 1 of the FederalPenalty Law No. 3 of 1987 and its amendments, he was not charged.
