The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has foiled a bid to smuggle 131 kg of crystal narcotics through a wooden launch into Dubai and arrested the gang behind the attempt.
Undersecretary of Ministry of Interior Lt. General Saif Al Shafaar said the seized amount of crystal methamphetamine has an estimated market value of more than Dh24 million ($6.55 million).
He unveiled the UAE anti-narcotic departments shared intelligence with a neighbouring country to foil the smuggling attempt in an operation which also led to apprehension of nine Asian smugglers.
He indicated that the smugglers were planning to re-traffick the drug haul to other countries through hiding it inside refrigerator trucks.
