15-month-old baby dies in Dubai home pool

A 15-month-old European boy died after drowning in a swimming pool at his house in Dubai last week, a newspaper reported on Wednesday.

The father had just returned from a nearby shop when he noticed his son floating motionless in the pool at his house in Umm Suqeim, ‘Emarat Al Youm’ said.

Police charged the boy’s mother with negligence as she was in the kitchen at the time of the accident but they released her later.

“She was released for humanitarian reasons as she suffered from a shock because of her son’s death,” a police source told the Arabic language paper.

The source said the mother, of Arab origin, told police that she had left her baby with his elder brothers and sisters and that she had not imagined they would leave him alone in the swimming pool.
