The veterinarian medical team of veterinary services section of Public Health Services Department at Dubai Municipality succeeded in a rare surgery to remove a cancerous tumor weighing 15 kg from the udder of a goat.
The medical team said that the goat was in severe fatigue, and after necessary medical examinations, the team could detect the presence of a cancerous tumor in advanced stages as a result of the accumulation of intravenous sediments inside udder which led to swell and had a negative impact on the movement and health of animal.
“The surgery is generally considered as a stage of the treatment to be resorted to in case of the treatment is not possible through medical prescription and such cases require surgery urgently. It took about two hours to get rid of the tumor and ensure the safety of the surrounding area from any symptoms of bacterial infections and the animal was placed under observation for continuous follow up after surgery until discharging from the clinic,” said Hashim Al Awadhi, head of veterinary services section.
“The veterinary clinic undertakes many treatments and surgeries for animals, where in the first quarter of 2013 it has successfully completed 74 large operations and five rare operations in addition to 160 small surgeries,” Hashim said.
