16 thefts in 10 days… and then busted!

A serial robber, who allegedly committed an amazing 16 thefts in 10 days, has been arrested by the Dubai Police just before he fled the country.

According to a report in Gulf Today, HT, an Arab national, has been accused of robbing 16 villas in Bur Dubai and Jumeirah and stealing cash, watches, cameras, laptops, perfumes, cosmetics and other expensive items.

Director of the General Department of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Dubai Police, Brigadier Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri said that police had received a number of theft complaints from residents.

A team was assigned to investigate the cases and study the way the suspect was committing the thefts.

A rough sketch of the suspect, the details of which were provided by the victims, was also sent out to the patrols in the area.

He was caught on June 30 near a Metro station on Sheikh Zayed Road, the police revealed on Friday.  A patrol spotted HT and they matched the description of the suspect they were searching for.

He was arrested, searched his bag and found four cameras, jewellery, watches, perfumes, cosmetics and a small box that contained different amounts of dirhams, Euros and US dollars.

The police found 17 watches, six cell phones, three iPads, six cameras, various electronic devices, jewellery, a laptop, several accessories, cosmetics and perfumes in his room.

The people who reported thefts in their villas were called in the police station to identify the stolen goods.

HT has been travelling from one country to the other and stealing expensive items, and left the country within a week so that he doesn’t get caught.

He confessed to entering Dubai on a visit visa on June 19. On June 29, he reportedly went to Jumeirah and climbed over fences of a few villas and stole expensive goods.

HT has been detained and referred to the Public Prosecution.
