16 UAE students win Cambridge Learner Awards

Student winners of Cambridge Outstanding Learner Awards from GEMS schools in UAE.

16 learners from five GEMS schools in the UAE on Monday received awards to acknowledge their outstanding performance in the 2012 University of Cambridge International examinations.

The Outstanding University of Cambridge Learner Awards, also known as the Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Cambridge Outstanding Learner Awards, celebrates the success of learners taking Cambridge examinations in over 40 countries around the world.

Harshil Niraj Dhanky from The Cambridge High School, Abu Dhabi was awarded the Top of the World Category in IGCSE Travel and Tourism. 13 of his fellow GEMS students received the Top of the UAE Category (five in IGCSE, six in AS Level and two in A Level) and a further two were recognised in the IGCSE High Achievement category. 

Margaret Atack, Group Senior Director, Education, GEMS Education, said, “The awards recognise the talent, dedication and commitment of both the students and the teachers in our schools. On behalf of GEMS Education, we congratulate each student.”

Gordon Slaven, Director of the British Council, UAE and Simon Higgins, Regional Manager CIE, MENA attended the event and congratulated the students who won the awards.
