Eighteen members of the Thalavadapparampu family from Pattampi in Kerala, South India, had a miraculous escape after being involved in a bus accident that claimed three lives on Saturday evening.

A bus carrying 60 pilgrims from Dubai was returning from Saudi Arabia, when a tyre burst led the bus to flip over.

Besides the three men who died, several people were seriously injured, yet, amazingly, from the 18-member Thalavadapparampu family, only the youngest member, nine-month-old Mohammed Hadi Dayan, is undergoing treatment in hospital for a minor head injury.

Speaking to Emirates 24|7, Ashraf, one of the four brothers who also escaped unhurt from the bus tragedy said: “We are yet to come out of the shock.

“Three of our friends have died and many are injured. My family, wife and children, came to Dubai for vacation and we planned to go on an Ummrah,”

“All of a sudden, the driver lost control when he hit a road divider and the tyre bust, causing the bus to overturn,” Ashraf told the website.

Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi Police said the accident was caused by speeding and carelessness.

Abu Dhabi Police said in a statement that bus drivers and transport companies should take proper precaution, especially about tyre safety.
