2-car crash leaves Sheikh Zayed Road in a jam

A two-car accident on Dubai’s main artery, Sheikh Zayed Road, has resulted in long delays and tailbacks, still on going.
The accident between a black Honda City and a blue Peugeot is on the southbound stretch, opposite to Ibn Battuta Mall, en route to Abu Dhabi.

Eye-witness Deepak Bakshi who was on the scene spoke to Emirates 24|7, saying: “Both the cars are crushed, with the Peugeot bearing the brunt of the impact.
“From the looks of it, it appears the Honda City crashed into the car from behind, which hit the centre barrier. This is why the Peugeot is crushed from the front and back.”

Bakshi added that emergency services were already on the scene, with tow trucks in the process of clearing the scene.
“The ambulances were driving away when I arrived there.”

Bakshi reported it took him well over an hour to exit Tecom and reach Ibn Battuta, adding: “Hopefully, no one is seriously injured.”
Commuters are already reporting tailbacks that have stretched towards the fifth interchange, near Dubai Media City.

Irfan H tweeted: “An accident has been reported on Sheikh Zayed Road between many cars opposite near Ibn Battuta station towards Abu Dhabi.”
Jeff Price tweeted: “Expect delays Abu Dhabi bound.”

In an earlier incident on Baghdad Street today, a man passed away on the wheel of his Kia sedan, with paramedics suspecting cardiac arrest.
