Two employee of Dubai Municipality allegedly asked for Dh300, 000 in bribe to reconnect electricity service to 15 villas owned by an Asian investor, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The Dubai Prosecution accused AFM, 37, inspector and WAM, 27, head of Building Inspection Section for requesting bribe.

The two, however, denied accusation when appealed before the Court Presided by Judge Hamad Abdullatif.

The owner of the villas HDM, 58, complained to police about the two employees asking him to pay them Dh300,000 to reconnect the electricity to 16 villas that he owns.

He told police that he went to Building Inspection Section of Dubai Municipality at Al Karama to pay fines and hoped that would request cancelling some fines.

“I met AFM who promised to cancel the fines provided he bribes him and his senior Dh300,000.”

Police trapped the two by asking the complainant to go ahead and pretend agreeing to give money.

He met them at Bin Suqqat Centre and paid Dh150,000 advance and agreed to pay additional Dh150,000 after reconnecting the electricity and cancellation the fines.

The conversation between the complainant and the employee was also recorded.

They agreed to meet next time at Mazaya Centre on Sheikh Zayed Road. Police photocopied the notes that were given to the two employees.

The accused came on time and went to the complainant’s car where they were handed over the bag. But when as walked towards his car police arrested him.
