A court of cassation in Abu Dhabi acquitted three civil servants, including a department director, of charges of planting secret cameras at a women-only section in the office.

The three were last year sentenced to six months suspended jail by two courts and one of them, an expatriate, was ordered deported of the UAE.

“The court of cassation yesterday acquitted the three of all charges and annulled all previous sentences against them,” the Arabic language daily Albayan said.

During hearings last year, the public prosecutor demanded tough punishment of the three on the grounds they committed an ethical crime which violates UAE social values.

The three denied such charges, saying the camera was not secret and could be seen by everyone.
They said cameras were also installed in the other sections of the department and that they are intended to ensure discipline.
