An Abu Dhabi court sentenced three civil servants, including a department director to a six-month suspended imprisonment after they were found guilty of installing secret cameras at a women-only section in the department.

The court also ordered the deportation of one defendant, an Arab citizen, and acquitted the three of charges of threatening public security.

During hearings, the public prosecutor demanded tough punishment of the three on the grounds they committed an ethical crime which violates UAE social values.

The three denied such charges, saying the camera was not secret and could be seen by everyone.

They said other cameras were also installed in the other sections of the department and that they are intended to ensure discipline.
