The UAE’s National Elections Committee (NEC) has announced that the final number of candidates in the fray for the 2015 Federal National Council Elections 2015 is 329. This is as per the electoral time-frame with September 14 set as the last date for withdrawal of candidature.

A total of 12 candidates withdrew their nominations with seven from Abu Dhabi, two each in Dubai and Fujairah and one in Ras Al Khaimah. There were no nomination withdrawals in Sharjah, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain.

The NEC has also announced the extension of the period for submitting applications by candidate representatives till Wednesday September 16. This was originally scheduled to conclude with the end of the nomination withdrawal period. All FNC candidates have the right to select their representatives from the Electoral Authorities in their respective Emirate.

The NEC has three as the set the maximum number of representatives permissible for candidates in those Emirates that have more than three electoral centres. In those Emirates with only three electoral centres, candidates can have only a maximum of two representatives. If the emirate has only two electoral centres, each candidate can have only a maximum of one representative.

The NEC called on all candidates to abide by the regulations of the electoral campaigns as stated in the executive directives issued by the committee to avoid any disciplinary measures or appeals that may be filled by other candidates against them. This is part of the efforts to carry out the 2015 FNC Elections with integrity and reflecting the UAE’s reputation.

The NEC has urged all citizens to confirm the listing of their names in electoral authorities lists by visiting the NEC’s website: www.uaenec.ae or by contacting its dedicated Call Centre on: 600500005, for them to exercise their voting rights on the election day.
