355 illegal vendors, 51 beggars arrested

Dubai Municipality arrested 355 vendors selling counterfeit products last month.

According to Obaid Ibrahim Al Marzouqi, Head of Market Department, Dubai Municipality, most of them are illegal residents and have no identification documents, reported 'Al Ittihad' newspaper.

Officials conducted surprise inspections in various areas including Deira, Al Ras and Naif.

The campaign was undertaken by the municipality in cooperation with Dubai Police, Department of Residence and Naturalisation and Ministry of Labour, said Al Marzouqi.

Officials found about 5,789 illegal items including clothes, watches and perfumes being sold in these areas. They seized 9,189 counterfeit products and 107 pornographic CDs, all sold at low prices raging between Dh5 and Dh10, he said and added that all items would be destucted.

About 51 beggars were also arrested last month.

All those arrested will be deported after serving their sentences.
