52,000 break seat-belt rule in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi’s traffic police caught more than 52,000 drivers offending the seat belt in the first seven months of 2013 although such an offence involves four black points.
Police said they would not tolerate such traffic offences as they directly affect the public safety in case of road accidents.
"The traffic police patrols issued 52,324 tickets to drivers for failing to fasten the seat belt while driving in the first seven months of this year," Abu Dhabi traffic police deputy director Colonel Khamis Mohammed said.
"Many drivers are still committing such offences despite their dangers and the fact that they involve Dh400 fine and four black points."
He said the aim of these fines were not to increase revenue but to deter motorists and lessen casualties in case of road mishaps.
