8.5% of UAE students have difficulties in learning, says ministry
Around 5,130 students in the UAE, or 8.55 per cent of the total, have different disabilities when it comes to school learning, according to the latest national statistics of 2011/2012.
Fawzia Hassan Gharib, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education, said: “The ministry will support this category of students providing special education and follow-up as well as developing individual education plans including provision of facilities of teaching and examinations as per the requirement of each student.”
“Currently the ministry has been setting up a national cadre encompassing 25 specialists in the special education where they will be trained on the ways of exploring the learning difficulties of students and their teaching strategies,” she explained.
This was during her inaugural speech in the opening session of the 6th GCC Learning Disability Conference and Workshops kicked off on Monday under the patronage of Hameed Al Qatami, the Minister of Education.
