9 gold bars hidden in dates at Sharjah Airport

The police at Sharjah Airport have detained two Indian nationals, identified as XAS and AHM, for trying to smuggle nine gold bars into India from Sharjah.

The bullion was placed in cans packed with dates and the cans where then stuffed inside suitcases.

The accused have been transferred to the police for  further investigation and admitted that they were hiding the gold to avoid paying duty on the yellow metal in India.

Sharjah Police have warned residents and visitors against such illegal activities.
