In an interesting case, victims of a fake charge not only had to fight a court case to prove their innocence but also lost a huge sum of money in the process.

The men who were accused of stealing a car worth just Dh20,000 - but had to part with Dh300,000, according to media reports.

Three colleagues were dragged to court by their Asian associate on charges of stealing his car worth Dh20,000.

The Court of First Instance in Sharjah, sentenced the three in absentia to three years in jail and a bail amount of Dh500,000.

Later, the trio was retried by the same bench, and the court found that the lawsuit was malicious. They cleared the men of charges and acquitted them.

The bail amount was returned to them. However, Dh300,000 was deducted as lawyer’s fee.
