Abu Dhabi court fines UAE woman Dh600m

An appeals court in Abu Dhabi sentenced an Emirati woman to three years in prison and fined her Dh600 million after she was convicted of embezzling public funds and forging documents while working for a government department.

The sentence was based on several counts of charges including embezzlement, misappropriation of public funds, forgery of government documents, deliberately harming the interests of a public department and illegally obtaining commission.

The court also sentenced three accomplices to six months in jail and ordered their deportation from the UAE.

Two other defendants associated with the case were also sentenced to three months to be followed by deportation.
