The Environment Agency- Abu Dhabi (EAD) said on Tuesday that the results of laboratory analysis of water samples collected from the sea after the sewage spill in some areas in the island of Abu Dhabi, show that the leakage has been brought under control. The incident did not cause any environmental damage, it added.

The EAD has been trying to assess the environmental situation and reduce possible adverse effects of  the sewage spill.  Monitoring teams have been deployed to collect  samples of water daily. EAD teams have patrolled the area on boats.

No any case of death of fish was detected or any marine algae seen on the surface of the sea which confirms the absence of any environmental effect as a result of the sewage spill.

Meanwhile,  the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority has adopted precautionary measures after the incident, notifying all hospitals in the emirate to monitor any condition that may be caused by direct exposure to pollution caused by the leakage. It added that the EAD should be directly informed about any case.

The Health Authority- Abu Dhabi has not received any case relating to the incident.

Meanwhile, the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority has tightened control over fish markets in the emirate to ensure food safety.

Other precautionary steps include banningof swimming, fishing and other water activities and entertainment temporarily at Al Bateen and Corniche East beaches, pending the results of laboratory tests that require thorough examination of water samples.

The Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Company had brought under control in two days the break of one of the main sewer pipes on the island of Abu Dhabi, which led to  temporary closure of this pipe. However, the line has been repaired and is now working normally.
