Abu Dhabi to get 15 new speed radars

The Directorate of Traffic and Patrols at Abu Dhabi Police has announced that 15 radars installed on the roads of Abu Dhabi will be activated on Tuesday (tomorrow).

Seven of the radars are near the entrances and exits of Sheikh Zayed Tunell. The rest take their places along Arabian Gulf Street, Baynunnah Tunnel and near Al Raha Beach.

Captain Ahmed Al Muhairi, head of traffic safety at Abu Dhabi Police, said the directorate plans to install more radars on all roads in the emirate.

Al Muhairi said the speed limit on Sheikh Zayed Road, after the bridge until the main tunnel, is 80kmph. After the end of the tunnel, it is 60kmph. The speeds limits in this place have been reduced after field studies, he added.

Al Muhairi also said trucks weighing more than two tonnes laden with oil or its derivatives or any flammable substances are prohibited from entering the Sheikh Zayed Tunnel.

Muhairi appealed drivers to be stick to the speed limits while heading to the Eastern Ring Road, the port or Corniche Road.
