The Ministry of Interior, represented by the Traffic Coordination Directorate General, has called on UAE nationals and resident owners of vehicles with Abu Dhabi-issued old or expired number plates to approach service centres of the Abu Dhabi Police’s Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department to replace them with the new categories to avoid penalty.

It also appealed to vehicle owners with unclear new number plates to refer to the service centres to have the plates replaced with new ones.

Brigadier Ghaith Hassan Al Zaabi, Director General of the Traffic Coordination Department at the Ministry of Interior, reiterated the Ministry’s keenness and its ongoing endeavor to provide distinguished services to cater to the public’s needs.

He indicated that the Traffic Coordination Department has coordinated with all Traffic and Patrols Directorates across the State, along with the GCC Traffic Directorates to urge vehicle owners to replace their old Abu Dhabi number plates issued by the Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department with new ones, to avoid legal action and penalties stated in the Federal Traffic Law for driving with expired number plates.

He referred to the significant number of vehicles with old number plates across the GCC countries, whose owners have yet to approach the Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department in Abu Dhabi to replace them.

Colonel Mohamed Mayouf Al Kutbi, Head of Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department at Abu Dhabi Police, indicated that the department had granted vehicle owners a legal deadline to replace their old and unclear car number plates. Additionally, the Traffic and Patrols Directorate has been instructed to carry out inspection campaigns to ensure compliance of car owners with the number plates’ replacement initiative.
