An Indian clerk, arrested for possessing liquor, allegedly tried bribing the investigating officer while in custody.

On Apil 24, HMM, 35, was brought from CID custody to Naif Police Station to get his testimony,  Saleh Hussain 37, policeman, told the Prosecution.

HMM initially denied posessing alcohol. "Upon repeated questioning, he told me, 'you will benefit from arresting me'. On further asking him what he meant, the clerk offered Dh8,000 to release him and get the case cancelled. And when I laughed at the offer, HMM increased his offer to Dh10,000," Hussain testified.

At this point other policemen walked in and arrested the clerk, who held Dh4,500 in his hands. Upon seeing the cops, he immediately tried piuting the cash back into his pockets, said Matar bin Khamis, 44, policeman.

Khamis was instructed by Lieutenant Colonel Nasser Al Suweidi from Naif Police Station to catch the accused red-handed and so he co-ordinated with Dubai Police Operations Department and trapped HMM.

The court adjourned the case for verdict until end of this month.
