Al Ain imam drowns after saving his own kids

A well-known imam in the eastern oasis town of Al Ain drowned after saving the life of his son and nephew in high seas in the eastern Sharjah port of Khorfakkan.

Abdul Rahman Mustafa Dabees, 45, was jet skiing with the two boys off Khorfakkan on Sunday when the kids screamed for help after they were hit by strong currents.

“He rushed and saved his son and nephew, but he could not resist the strong currents and drowned,” the Arabic language daily Al Khaleej said.

The paper said Dabees had also worked as a ‘Maazoun’ (marriage performer) and a family guide in Al Ain for nearly 15 before dying on Sunday.
