The Al Ain Traffic and Patrols Section at the Traffic and Patrols Directorate General of Abu Dhabi Police released  585 vehicles last April, after fulfilling  the legal impound period and payment of  due fines.

The Al Ain Traffic and Patrols Department had impounded the vehicles for different reasons, within the conditions stipulated in the lists and resolutions pertaining to car impound in the Federal Traffic Law.

Major Salah Abdullah El Humairi, Acting Chief of the Al Ain Traffic and Patrols Section, called on motorists, who have collected their released impounded vehicles, to abide by traffic laws and avoid such violations.  Moreover, he noted that impounding and confiscating vehicles aims to educate motorists to learn from their mistakes, and avoid reasons behind traffic accidents and their resulting in deaths and serious injuries.

Al Humairi said: “According to the Federal Traffic Law and its amendments, a vehicle is impounded for two months when its legal owner is driving  under the influence of alcohol; driving without registration plates; and when a truck driver is caught overtaking other vehicles in a dangerous manner.

“Moreover, a vehicle is impounded for one month when the legal owner commits violations such as exceeding the maximum speed limit of 60 km per hour; driving the vehicle recklessly and endangering the lives of others; or for excessively painting the car”. “A vehicle is also impounded for 15 days for running a red light. Vehicles with excessive loads, expired registration or worn-out tires will be impounded for one week,” he concluded.
