Al Fahidi market to be opened in March next year

Al Fahidi Market, a project started by Dubai Municipality, within its community-based infrastructure development plans, is expected to be opened by March next year, said Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director-General of the civic body.

“As we could accomplish 46 per cent of the project, we hope we can open it by march next year’ said Lootah.
 
He said market complex is one of the distinctive projects implemented by Dubai Municipality and the construction is going on a total area of 27,000 sqm with an estimated cost of Dh50 million.
 
He added that complex is characterised by traditional architectural heritage styles.
 
The building consisting basement, ground floor and first floor is expected to be capable of housing 232 shops,15 cafeteria and 32 kiosks with parking space for more than 300 cars.
 
Lootah said as Dubai Municipality is keen on preserving the environment, standards and requirements for green building have been applied in
the construction.
 
According to him, for lighting and water heating equipment solar energy would be the source. To halt loss of cool air through openings special technology would be applied. As part of encouraging sustainable transportation, parking stands and space for bicycles would be provided.
