The Sharjah Development and Investment Authority (Shurooq) has announced the completion of the linking of Al Majaz Waterfront and Khalid Lagoon, in accordance with the new master plan that aims to transform the area into one of the most attractive tourism destinations in the region.

Shurooq is on track to finalise the other facilities of the project, which is scheduled for completion in December 2010, to coincide with the launch of the 2010 Sharjah Water Festival and the UIM Formula One Powerboat World Championship - Sharjah Grand Prix.

The announcement follows the completion of construction works on the semi-circular road surrounding Al Majaz Park and the opening of the road to traffic.

The entire park area has been transformed into a huge construction site, with consultants, engineers, manpower and equipment having been mobilised to speed up work.

Connecting Al Majaz Park with Khalid Lagoon is the latest development amid the project's rapid progress. The previous road was replaced by an extension to the park, and vehicular traffic was smoothly transferred to a new path on the opposite side.

Marwan Jassim Al Sarkal, CEO of Shurooq, said: "The Al Majaz Waterfront development is progressing well. Milestones have been met on schedule and compliance with highest standard of quality and precision has been ensured. The project is on track, and the new look of the park will soon be revealed. The new waterfront will be worthy of a leading position on the region's tourism map."

"Shurooq is progressing in accordance with its overall objectives of developing various sectors considered vital to the emirate. We have a number of plans that will be implemented in the future, and we are negotiating with strategic partners in Sharjah and abroad to study ways of creating attractive investment opportunities and promoting the emirate in light of recent projects and the host of new incentives and regulations that make for rewarding investments for all parties," he added.

The Al Majaz Waterfront development project will see the construction of a large musical fountain in Khalid Lagoon, as well as the addition of numerous buildings and amenities such as food outlets, cafes, entertainment facilities and children's entertainment areas, in addition to beautiful landscapes designed by international designers.
